London without spending much
Visiting London is like visiting no other city in the world. With such a large population in such a small area it can be a bit overwhelming, but if you can navigate the streets and find the right places it’s an awesome experience. I would recommend getting a detailed map and possibly having a friend with you who knows a bit about the layout of the city. Passes for the public transportation are also an absolute must if you’re looking to enjoy the entire city.
Going to Trafalgar square is of course a good idea; it’s beautiful, bustling, full of travelers, and a great place to meet up with people if you’re in a group that has spread out. I had a particularly interesting experience there because I was part of a group of experimental music performers who would set up our equipment around town every evening and play music synched to video for the general public on the street. In Trafalgar it was a wonderful show and I met plenty of amazing people from around the world.
A great way to enjoy London without spending much is to research days of free admission at the many awesome museums around town. The Tate Modern is an absolute must see, and the portrait museum is charming and entertaining. If I were to return, I would spend more time and try to meet more Londoners, as the ones I did meet and spend time with were lovely people.
